Joints and soft tissues — the muscles, tendons, ligaments and cartilage that hold the body together and keep it moving are among the most commonly injured structures we treat. Problems can arise from sport, repetitive strain, wear and tear over time, or simply from daily life.
Soft tissue injuries respond well to physiotherapy, and conditions like osteoarthritis, which many people assume require surgery, can often be managed very effectively with the right treatment programme. In fact, physiotherapy is one of the most evidence-based approaches for joint pain at any stage.
Soft tissue injuries are most commonly the result of sporting activity, repetitive movements, or a sudden awkward force. Sprains and strains occur when ligaments, tendons or muscles are overstressed and some of the fibres tear, either microscopically or on a larger scale. The severity determines the grade of injury and guides the treatment approach.
Joint problems like osteoarthritis develop differently, through gradual wear and tear of the cartilage and bone ends over time. This can affect one joint or many, and ranges from very mild to severe. It is important to understand that a diagnosis of osteoarthritis does not automatically mean surgery, and physiotherapy is very effective in managing the condition at most stages.
Repetitive strain is another common cause, particularly in the hands, wrists, forearms and elbows, where repeated gripping or keyboard use can irritate tendons and surrounding tissue over time.
Joint and soft tissue problems are what physiotherapy does best. Whether you’re dealing with a recent sprain, a long-standing tendon problem, or a joint affected by osteoarthritis, we’ll identify the cause, grade the injury accurately, and build a treatment plan around your specific needs and goals.
We use a combination of hands-on treatment, targeted exercise, and specialist techniques to reduce pain, restore movement, and get you back to doing what you need to do.

Yes. Physiotherapy is one of the most effective approaches for managing osteoarthritis, helping to reduce pain, improve mobility and strengthen the muscles supporting the affected joint. Many patients avoid or delay surgery as a result.
No, you can self-refer and book directly with us. If we identify anything during your assessment that requires further investigation or medical input, we'll advise you accordingly.
It depends on the grade of the injury. Minor strains can resolve within a few weeks with the right treatment, while more significant tears may take longer and require a structured rehabilitation programme. We'll give you a clear picture at your initial assessment.
